Framework

Municipal wastewater capital delivery — advanced treatment upgrade

Key outcome

A coordinated, compliant EICA design package accepted for construction, with the new treatment stream electrically integrated into the existing works and interface risk resolved at design stage rather than on site.

Challenge

Introduction of a Nereda® aerobic granular sludge treatment stream onto an operational sewage treatment works required a new electrical distribution and control architecture to be integrated alongside live assets, without interruption to consented discharge, and with vendor control equipment interfacing into the site-wide telemetry hierarchy.

Solution

Delivered the full EICA design package: low-voltage distribution modelling and cable sizing in the Trimble suite, fault level and discrimination studies, Single Line Diagrams, Block Cable Diagrams and MCC General Arrangements, together with instrument and valve schedules and a control philosophy defining the process interlocking between the Nereda® stream and existing plant. Vendor control panel submissions were technically reviewed against WIMES, BS 7671 and BS EN 61439 prior to acceptance.

Framework

Tier 1 contractor capital scheme — wastewater treatment upgrade

Key outcome

Design deliverables issued to programme with compliance to WIMES and BS 7671 demonstrated in the calculation set, enabling procurement of switchgear and MCCs without redesign.

Challenge

A major capital upgrade to an operational wastewater treatment works required extensive replacement and extension of the electrical distribution, motor control and instrumentation infrastructure while maintaining treatment throughput, with tight tender and construction milestones placing the design package on the programme critical path.

Solution

Provided senior-led detailed EICA design: incoming supply and LV distribution assessment, Trimble ProDesign network modelling with voltage drop and fault level verification, MCC functional specification and General Arrangements, cable containment and draw pit schedules, field instrumentation tagging and termination schematics, plus technical query resolution through construction.

Framework

Clean water framework programme — multi-site dosing and disinfection upgrades

Key outcome

A consistent, framework-compliant design set delivered across the programme, reducing per-site design effort and simplifying vendor procurement, review and site acceptance.

Challenge

Seventeen potable water sites required chemical dosing and disinfection plant upgrades under a common framework, demanding consistency of design, standardised documentation and repeatable safety interlocking across a geographically distributed asset base, each site with differing existing electrical infrastructure.

Solution

Developed a standardised EICA design template applied across all seventeen sites: common SLD and BCD conventions, standardised dosing kiosk and local control panel specifications, automated fail-safe safety interlocking to the client's potable water chemical dosing specifications, and master load, instrument and valve schedules maintained as controlled documents per site.

Framework

£6M sewage treatment works refurbishment

Key outcome

Refurbishment design delivered for a £6M scheme with obsolete assets replaced by compliant, verified equipment and a documented, staged changeover strategy for the operational works.

Challenge

Refurbishment of an ageing sewage treatment works required replacement of obsolete switchgear, motor control equipment and field instrumentation, with limited and partly inaccurate existing record information, and staged construction around continued operation of the works.

Solution

Carried out site load assessment and validation of existing infrastructure, followed by full detailed design: LV distribution modelling and protective device coordination, Form 4 switchboard and MCC specification to BS EN 61439, containment and cabling design, instrumentation schedules, and staged changeover documentation supporting phased commissioning.

Framework

Clean water treatment works infrastructure upgrade

Key outcome

Upgraded process plant integrated into the existing electrical infrastructure with verified capacity, documented protection coordination and fail-safe control demonstrated in the design submission.

Challenge

Upgrade of clean water treatment infrastructure required additional process plant to be powered and controlled from constrained existing electrical infrastructure, with potable water compliance and fail-safe operation as non-negotiable design conditions.

Solution

Delivered feasibility-level capacity assessment followed by detailed EICA design: revised LV distribution and cable calculations in the Trimble suite, MCC and local control panel specification, instrumentation and actuated valve schedules, and a control philosophy defining fail-safe interlocking and telemetry signal hierarchy for the upgraded plant.
